Stars

Image
A star is any massive self-luminous celestial body of gas that shines by radiation derived from its internal energy sources. Of the tens of billions of trillions of stars in the observable universe, only a very small percentage are visible to the naked eye. Stars are made of very hot gas. This gas is mostly hydrogen and helium, which are the two lightest elements. Stars shine by burning hydrogen into helium in their cores, and later in their lives create heavier elements. Methuselah is believed to be the oldest star in the entire known universe, having formed over 14 billion years ago. Its age makes it older than the universe itself. The stars seem to twinkle in the night sky due to the effects of the Earth's atmosphere. When starlight enters the atmosphere, it is affected by winds in the atmosphere and areas with different temperatures and densities. This causes the light from the star to twinkle when seen from the ground. Stars can be as cool as 2500 Kelvin ...

Annular Solar Eclipse

Image
An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth while it is at its farthest point from Earth. Because the Moon is farther away from Earth, it appears smaller than the Sun and does not completely cover the star. This creates a “ring of fire” effect in the sky. The maximum phase of an annular eclipse is called annularity, and the area on Earth where you can see it is called the path of annularity. The path of annularity is small, averaging only 93 miles wide. An annular eclipse occurs every one to two years. Annular eclipses are the rarest kind of solar eclipse. While normal total solar eclipses can happen at any point in the Moon's orbit around the Earth, annular eclipses only happen when the Moon is around its apogee.

Moon

The moon is beautiful. It is very essential for the planet Earth and for every planet in the solar system. We need the moon because it helps control the weather and ocean tides. It has no atmosphere, which means no sound, no protection from cosmic rays and meteorites, and huge temperature variations. It has quakes, mountains, craters, and flat planes called 'seas'. There are many different moons. Jupiter has 92 moons that have been officially confirmed. The first man to set foot on the Moon in 1969 was Neil Armstrong on the Apollo 11 mission, while the last man to walk on the Moon in 1972 was Gene Cernan on the Apollo 17 mission.     Wigington, Patti (2019, January, 1). Rockets

Image
Rockets are so iconic for space due to them being the only way to reach space. They have been around for decades and every year they get better and upgrade. They have been an essential item for space exploration and discovery. They have helped us find out new things and reach other planets and even the moon. The first man to ever reach the moon was Armstrong in 1969 thanks to the help of a rocket. Rockets make exhaust by burning fuel in a rocket engine. Rockets work more efficiently in a vacuum and incur a loss of thrust due to the opposing pressure of the atmosphere.

Space Introduction

Space Introduction    Space is filled with many mysteries. We barely even know what's out in what we call "Outer Space". There is so much to explore and to figure out. There’s millions of theories and ideas that people have made and have been talking about for years, decades and even centuries. Every theory is valid, but, not every theory makes sense. Scientists have been trying to figure out and explore outer space as much as possible in the past years. We have sent spaceships and rovers to space and other planets. We will never fully find out what’s outside of our planet and our world and that’s what makes space so intriguing and makes us so curious.
